Welcome in the Gard

15 minutes from les Jardins d’Estriat

Our wines
Our region has a wide range of red wines with an intense structure, together with full bodied flavors that feel the mistral, the sun and the smell of the garrigue, white wines full of finesse and elegance and fresh and fruity rosé. A pleasure to taste in moderation...

Fêtes votives
The abrivados are specifically organized at local festivals in many villages and towns in the Gard from May to September. The streets are blocked by high barriers to prevent bulls from escaping into the countryside, gardians pretend to prevent atrapaïre (catchers in Provençal language) to escape the bull. It is even organized competitions abrivado between several farmers participating and being judged on the number of bulls that they bring back into the fold. 
The ferias and bullfights are held in major cities.


Gard meals

1/Recipe for “fougasse d’Aigue-Morte” 
Preparation time: 40 minutes, 12 hours of rest 
Cooking time: 50 minutes 

Ingredients (for 6 to 8 people): 

- 500 g flour 
- 150 g sugar 
- 100 g of butter 
- 1 pinch of salt 
- 3 eggs 
- 1 glass of milk 
- 15 g of fresh yeast 
- 1 teaspoon orange blossom 

Preparation: 

The day before, put the flour in a large bowl with sugar, salt, eggs, orange blossom and yeast in a glass of milk. 
Make a soft dough and smooth. 
Knead the length. 
Let stand all night. 

The next day, put the dough in a buttered mold or simply pie in the oven buttered sheet. 
Bake at 160/180 ° C for 50 to 60 minutes. 

Put the still-warm egg white mixed with a little orange flower water. 
Immediately sprinkle sugar. 

Let cool.


2/ Recipe for « la gardianne de toro »

For 4 Persons 


Preparation time: 50 min 
Cooking time: 5 hours 
Rest time: 48 hours 
Ingredients: 
• 1 kg of bull 
• 1 orange 
• 8 carrots 
• 2 onions 
• 1 clove garlic 
• 1 celery stalk 
• 3 cloves 
• herbs de Provence 
• 5 bay leaves 
• 2 bottles of red wine coast bodied Rhone (Cairanne aimed ...) 
• flour 
• olive oil 


Preparation: 
Degrease the bull (a good bull does not have much fat). 
For marinade, cut the carrot slice, slice the onions and garlic. Put the skin of the orange slip, orange into thick slices, the whole stalk celery, bay leaves, herbs de Provence, and cloves. 
Mix it with meat and wine to cover completely. Allow 48 hours in the refrigerator. 
The day made for 2 v. onion soup recovered in the marinade, add the meat and flour them. Wet the complete marinade, and let simmer 5 hours.
